Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers carried out a violent spree in Enugu State, resulting in the tragic death of a middle-aged man named Sunday Nwa Ugwuja and the abduction of numerous individuals.
The distressing event transpired on a Saturday evening, with the fatal shooting occurring in the Uzo Uwani Local Government Area, while the abductions unfolded along the notorious Enugu-Ugwogo-Opi-Nsukka road.
Sunday Nwa Ugwuja, a resident of Apapam village in Ezikolo Abbi community, lost his life during an ambush on the Edem-Nrobo-Ezikolo-Abbi Road in Uzo-Uwani Council as he was en route to Nsukka.
Meanwhile, the assailants blocked the Enugu-Ugwogo-Opi-Nsukka road, targeting motorists, and successfully abducted around eight individuals, including a student named Obiora Omeye from Eha-Alumona community.
The Enugu State Police Command, however, claims to be unaware of these incidents.
The Command’s spokesperson, DSP Daniel Ndukwe, who spoke to journalists on Sunday, claimed “there was no such situation known or reported to Command at the moment. However, while we make frantic efforts to verify the veracity of the information, we urge person(s) with information on the exact location, time and mode of occurrence of the alleged incident, to avail us with same for necessary police actions.
“Meanwhile, the Command remains undeterred in her quest to flush out unrepentant violent criminals in every part of the State, please”.
