- PDP Youth Leader in Bayelsa State and five gubernatorial aides resign from PDP and defect to APC
- They express willingness to work for APC’s candidate Chief Timipre Sylva to bring progress to Bayelsa
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Youth Leader in Bayelsa State and five aides to Governor Douye Diri have resigned and defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the state’s governorship election on November 11.
Nunieh Odede (PDP youth leader), Abiah Joseph Oyisor, Hon Ayaye Obuma, Hon Itu Goodluck, Hon Timipa Ile, and Hon Olali Suwofien are among those who have defected.
They have all stated their willingness to work for the victory of Chief Timipre Sylva, the APC’s candidate for governor.
Nunieh announced his resignation from the PDP in a letter to the state PDP leadership on Monday, while other key aides to the governor vacated their positions to campaign for the APC.
We have spent years with the PDP and we built the party to where it is,” Nunieh, who later led other decampees to meet with the APC candidate, said. Given what is going on in the state, it is critical that we move forward now. Bayelsa is in a coma, and we can’t keep doing the same things and expect different results. Our resignation from the PDP is truly intended to save our beloved state from further devastation.
Julius Bokoru, Chief Sylva’s Special Adviser for Media and Publicity, confirmed that Sylva received the defectors and praised their bravery in choosing the progress and development of the state over “selfish gains.”
He said;
Youths are always the driving force of every society, youths also embody and give a trajectory of what the future would look like. Your decision today is heroic and selfless, you have placed state over self and beyond even the elections. You instill in us all that Bayelsa State is bound to do well.
