In Enugu State, gunmen shot and killed two police mobile force officers while injuring a third.
The Operation Restore Peace Enugu squad was on a normal patrol when the incident occurred at around 7:30 pm on Wednesday along the Udi-Ozalla Road, according to reliable information.
The slain officers were identified by our source as Inspector Abu Elamaje and Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Danjuma Joseph. The University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital (UNTH) Ituku-Ozalla was purportedly hurried to treat them, but they were unable to make there. On-call physicians pronounced the pair dead.
We also learned that Inspector Udeme Udomeng, who suffered gunshot wounds, was treated and released from the hospital’s mortuary while their remains were taken there for a postmortem examination.
The police source further said that efforts were on to apprehend the fleeing suspects.
According to information from the command, “MINE and other command tactical teams reinforced at area of incident on cordon and search operation for possible arrest of suspects. Further development shall be communicated.”
The Police is yet to speak on the incident as at the time of filing this report.
