Bandits terrorising Nigeria’s north west region have abducted nine construction workers at the Federal University Gusau in Zamfara State.
Within Nigeria earlier reports that bandits reportedly kidnapped some female students of the same varsity from their hostels in the early hours of Friday (today).
The rampaging bandits stormed the tertiary institution on motorcycles in the early hours of Friday, one of the workers, Ibrahim Mohammed, told newsmen.
He said immediately the bandits arrived, they broke into the building where the constitution workers were sleeping and whisked them away.
Mohammad disclosed that he was able to jump over the window and took to his heels.
“When they broke into the building, they told us to come out and follow them.
“I was looking at the way to escape, then suddenly I jumped over the window and one of the bandits fired a shot but could not get me.” The Punch quoted him as saying.
The management of the university authorities have not issued a statement on the two separate incidents and all efforts to get a reaction from them have proved abortive.
However, one of the security officers of the institution who spoke in confidence with newsmen confirmed the incident but did not provide detailed situation report as he was not authorised to speak on the matter.
He said, “Please bear with us. I am one of the security officers of this university.
“You know what happened with regard to the abduction of our students and the construction workers”
