Gunmen kill three vigilantes in Edo

Gunmen have reportedly killed three members of the Edo State Security Network (ESSN).

The victims were killed on Thursday night at Okhun Community in Ovia North-East Local Government Area of the state.

It was gathered that the incident may have something to do with leadership tussle in the community, while others suspected a cult reprisal attack.

An operative of the security outfit identified simply as ‘commander Small Baba’ confirmed the incident.

He said they received an information about some armed non-state actor terrorising Okhun Community but they were attacked on their way to the scene of the violence.

He made the disclosure in a one minute, forty-six viral audio/video.

He said: today (Thursday night), we got information that some hoodlums were shooting sporadically in Okhun Community.

“We swung into action immediately upon receiving the information. But we were attacked by the hoodlums. They killed three of my men in the process.

“I was also shot by the hoodlums, but I managed to escape”, Small Baba, who sustained a wound on his right hand said.

It would be recalled that two persons were recently killed in the Okhun Community which later morphed into an inter-cult war in Benin with at least 10 persons killed during the clash.

The Spokesperson of the Edo State Police Command, Chidi SP Nwabuzor has not issued a statement regarding the incident.
