The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has announced significant interceptions of illicit drugs across multiple states in Nigeria.
The Director of media and advocacy of the agency Mr Femi BabaFemi disclosed this in a press statement on Sunday in Abuja.
In various operations in Lagos, Kogi, FCT, Jigawa, Kaduna, Sokoto, and Edo states, over four tons of controlled substances such as nitrous oxide (laughing gas), skunk, codeine syrup, methamphetamine, and tramadol were seized.
A particular operation on September 22nd resulted in the interception of 1,194 cylinders of laughing gas weighing a total of 2,547.2 kilograms, loaded in two Toyota Sienna buses along the Okene-Lokoja-Abuja expressway. Two suspects, Onyebuchi Ikpozu and Kenneth Igwe, were apprehended during this operation.
Another operation saw the interception of 977 kilograms of skunk on September 20th in a trailer marked LSR 343 XW, intended for distribution in Sokoto State.
Two suspects, Auwal Mohammed and Abdullahi Abubakar, were arrested in connection with this seizure.
Further operations led to the arrest of additional individuals involved in drug trafficking, and substantial quantities of various illicit substances were seized across different locations.
