- Former Ijebu East Local Government Chairman, Wale Adedayo, arrested by police over a petition allegedly filed by the State Government
- Adedayo had accused Governor Dapo Abiodun of diverting LG allocations and was impeached by local councillors
Wale Adedayo, the impeached Chairman of Ijebu East Local Government, has been arrested by police in connection with a petition allegedly written against him by the State Government.
Adedayo had accused Governor Dapo Abiodun of diverting all 20 LGs in the state’s statutory Federal allocations.
He also requested that Abiodun be investigated by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Following allegations against the governor, Adedayo was suspended by the LG’s seven councillors and held and grilled for three days by the Department of State Security (DSS), Ogun Command, in Abeokuta.
On September 14, he was impeached by five of the LG’s eleven councillors.
Adedayo revealed his arrest by the police in a Facebook post on his timeline on Monday, adding that he is ready to die.
“The man’s son has been taken to the Ogun State Police CID in Eleweran, Abeokuta.” According to them, the State Government filed a petition against me. If it comes to death, I will take the path of the Patriarchs. “Ase di owo Olodumare!” he exclaimed.
When contacted, Police Spokesman Omolola Odutola stated that she was unaware of the arrest.
Odutola promised to contact our reporter as soon as she was briefed.
Governor Abiodun promised last week that Adedayo would be held accountable for the allegations levelled against him.
“He lied against me as governor, he lied against me as Dapo Abiodun, he ruined my reputation, and he tried to incite the public against the government.” “Wale Adedayo must respond to all of these allegations one by one,” Abiodun said.
