Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State has attributed his election victory and recent confirmation by the elections tribunal to God’s will and the overwhelming support of the state’s people.
Alia told a crowd gathered at Makurdi’s IBB Square yesterday during the tribunal victory celebration organized by the State Executive Council of the All Progressives Congress (APC) that the court’s decision underscored the importance of respecting the majority’s mandate.
The governor stated that he believed he had been chosen by divine providence to restore happiness to the people of Benue State.
He assured the public that his administration was dedicated to resolving the state’s problems and making it a better place for all residents.
He outlined some of his achievements while in office and promised that the construction of 16 roads in Makurdi, the state capital, would be completed by November 2023.
He also announced the purchase of 100 buses for Benue Links Company Limited, which will be delivered as soon as the government receives them all.
Alia discussed plans for youth empowerment, including an upcoming ICT training program to provide young people with valuable skills and deter them from engaging in criminal activity.
The governor stated unequivocally his commitment to relocating IDPs to their ancestral homes while ensuring that banditry and terrorism have no haven in the state under his watch.
Recognizing the difficulties the kidnapped Commissioner for Information, Culture, and Tourism, Mr Matthew Abo, faced, the governor assured the public that the government was actively working with security agencies to ensure his safe return. He expressed optimism that positive news would be forthcoming soon.
Governor Alia invited opposition parties to work with his administration. He urged his appointees to fulfil their duties, promising to tour the state during the dry season to express gratitude for the people’s unwavering support.
Austin Agada, the state chairman of the APC, was represented by Dr Vincent Ujih, Vice Chairman, Zone A, who expressed the party’s delight at the tribunal’s decision and pledged support for the governor’s efforts to bring democratic dividends to the people of Benue State.
