- Lawyer Donald Ayibiowu urged Governor Rotimi Akeredolu to stop the Ondo State House of Assembly’s impeachment of his deputy
- He advised Akeredolu not to make Deputy Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa a scapegoat for allegations involving the governor’s wife
Donald Ayibiowu, a lawyer, has urged Ondo State Governor Rotimi Akeredolu to halt the state’s House of Assembly’s impeachment of his deputy, Lucky Aiyedatiwa.
Ayibiowu, a native of Okelusi Town in Ondo State, advised Akeredolu not to make Aiyedatiwa the scapegoat for an allegation in which the governor’s wife, Betty, is implicated.
He made the call in an open letter to the governor, a copy of which was made available to journalists in Abuja on Wednesday.
Now that you are back and still recuperating in your Ibadan home, but in the light of your communication to the Ondo State House of Assembly that you have resumed work, one expects that you take charge fully of affairs of our dear Ondo State, notwithstanding, the Shenanigans of family, friends and close political associates.
The shocking news of the on-going pointless impeachment of your deputy, Mr. Lucky Aiyedatiwa, is the least the people expect from our dear state.
I dare say that your deputy should not be made the ‘scape goat’ for what the whole world can see glaringly as ‘fuji house of commotion’ in your absence. To participate, consent or authorise his removal would mean that you have taken sides.
Your Excellency, your approach should be to declare that ‘all have sinned and come short of the glory of God’, because I believe you don’t even know who is right, wrong, true, good or bad, it read in part.
Court stops impeachment of Ondo deputy governor
On Tuesday, a Federal High Court, Abuja, restrained the Ondo State House of Assembly from impeaching the Deputy Governor, Mr Lucky Aiyedatiwa, over alleged gross misconduct.
Justice Emeka Nwite, in a ruling shortly after Aiyedatiwa’s counsel, Kayode Adewusi, moved the ex-parte motion to the effect.
The judge also restrained Gov. Rotimi Akeredolu from nominating a new deputy governor and forwarded the same to the lawmakers for approval pending the hearing and determination of the substantive matter.
Justice Nwite held that after listening to Adewusi, he believed that the interest of justice would be met by granting the application.
