The Ondo State task force against fake and counterfeit drugs has apprehended a counterfeit drug manufacturer operating under the name Brother Paul Legacy Foundation.

The arrest took place at the organization’s office in the cultural area of Ondo road, Akure, following a tip-off. The fake drugs organization claimed to have concoctions that could cure various ailments, but they were found to be injurious to people’s health.

The organization was operating not only in Ondo State but also in 13 other states across the country.

The Ministry of Health, represented by the Permanent Secretary, Mrs Folukemi Aladenola, emphasized its commitment to protecting the health interests of the people.

The state government has taken steps to improve access to healthcare by waiving registration fees in all government facilities.

“The gesture of the government should prompt our people to access government health care facility but to our surprise, people still patronise these quacks and their prices range from N5000 to N10,000″.

“Instead of using this money to patronise quacks, you can get quality drugs at the government facilities in the state”

“The era of out of stock syndrome is over, now our facilities now have enough drugs to cater for the health of the people at an affordable price. Now our facilities have been directed to get their drugs from this agency. If you don’t get drugs in these facilities, you can question this gap”

Aladenola urged the residents of the state to seek healthcare services from qualified individuals and authorized government and private facilities.

She emphasized that the Brother Paul Legacy Foundation would be handed over to the appropriate authority for punishment. The Permanent Secretary also issued a stern warning to all counterfeit drug dealers in the state, stating that they would be held accountable.

Mr. Samuel Olatunji, the representative of NAFDAC, revealed that the apprehended individuals from the Brother Paul Legacy Foundation falsely claimed to have NAFDAC registration for their products. However, it was discovered that their registration number was fake.

Olugbenga Lasekan, the Chairman of the Ondo State taskforce, cautioned those involved in the sale of counterfeit drugs and adulterated consumables to stop their illegal activities. He stated that anyone caught would face legal consequences.
