A student named Chibuzo Ozioko at the University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN), has reportedly been killed by hoodlums while operating his okada business to support his education.
Ozioko, a 300-level student of the Philosophy Department, put up a fight when the hoodlums tried to snatch his motorcycle, but unfortunately, he was overpowered and his head was brutally struck with a hammer.
According to Vanguard, the hoodlums fled the scene with his motorcycle after committing this heinous act. The incident took place at Ofuluonu, in Nsukka Local Government Area of Enugu State around 9:30 pm.
A senior lecturer from the department, who wishes to remain anonymous, has confirmed the incident and expressed deep sorrow over the loss of a dedicated student.
In another news, WithinNigeria reported that a retired Major-General, known as Maj Gen RC Duru (rtd), was kidnapped by unidentified gunmen in Orji General area, Owerri North Local Government Area of Imo State.
The incident occurred last weekend when the Major-General was driving his black Mercedes Benz ML jeep and was ambushed by the gunmen. The situation is currently under investigation.
“He was kidnapped by 4 persons in a Toyota Sienna,” a statement read.
“The kidnappers went with his vehicle and checkpoints were informed. His phone 08033567459 was tracked to Mba Itoli in Imo State before it was switched off.
“Efforts are ongoing to locate the kidnappers and rescue the rtd General. All are requested to make efforts using all contacts (though discretely) to hasten return of the kidnapped General.
“Maj Gen Duru is a member of 33rd Regular and NDC 18.”
Security has deteriorated in the South-East with frequent attacks by armed persons in recent times.
Anambra and Imo states have witnessed some of the deadly attacks in the region.
