Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State has reacted to speculations that he is planning to foist his anointed gubernatorial candidate on the people of the state.
The rumours are in part fuelled by the recent acrimony between the governor and his estranged deputy, Philip Shaibu.
Reacting to the narrative, the governor said he had no preference for any would-be candidate, assuring that there will be fairness, equity and inclusiveness in the 2024 governorship election.
The governor made this known on Friday while addressing newsmen in Benin.
He said “It is not in my place to now determine, appoint or anoint any successor, but all I know is that in the process of seeking my successor, there must be fairness, equity, and a sense of inclusion because our goal is to keep Edo as one.”
Obaseki also disclosed that his administration was focused on finishing strong.
He assured that his administration planned to finish all uncompleted projects before the governorship election.
“For me, that is the only issue I understood that may be a problem and that should not stop us.
“The important thing for us as an administration is for us to finish strong and try to complete everything we told Edo people we would do for them during our campaign,” he said.
