Former Nigerian international Austine ‘Jay Jay’ Okocha has lauded Victor Boniface’s performance at Bundesliga club Bayer Leverkusen.
The 22-year-old joined the Die Werkself from Union St Gilloise in the Belgian Pro League this summer and has six goals in five league appearances.
He was named Bundesliga’s best player in August and Rookie of the Month.
Okocha, ecstatic about Bonuface’s prospects, described him as “an amazing player demonstrating that Nigeria does not lack talent.”
He’s [Boniface] been amazing. It’s always great to see one of our own doing well,”
He gives us hope. It shows we are not short of talent. We [Nigeria] just need to get our act together!
It is an exciting time for Nigerian football and the good thing is their ages, some of them haven’t even hit their prime yet.
It’s now about finding a way to get the best out of them when they come to play for Nigeria, says Okocha.
Serie A: Osimhen scores again as Napoli thrash Leece
Super Eagles forward Victor Osimhen came off the bench and scored the second goal in the Serie A encounter against Lecce on Saturday.
Osimhen was not named in the starting XI put forward by coach Rudi Garcia. Still, the Nigerian forward scored for the second game after the incident where the official Napoli TikTok mocked him for his penalty miss against Bologna.
The 24-year-old scored minutes after coming on in the second half to replace Giovanni Simeone. Osimhen headed the ball home from a perfectly floated cross from Khvicha Kvaratskhelia at the back post.
However, for the second game running, the Nigerian forward, since his mock over penalty miss, left a penalty for his teammate.
