The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) announced that the bulk power supply to Birinin Kebbi and its environs has been restored via the Birnin Kebbi Transmission Substation.

Ndidi Mbah, TCN’s general manager of public affairs, announced the news in a statement on Saturday.

She stated that the state’s bulk power supply was restored yesterday, September 29th, 2023, at approximately 11.33 a.m.

On the night of September 14, the TCN announced that a fire had broken out in its transmission substation in Birnin-Kebbi, Kebbi State.

According to the company, the incident occurred just hours after the national grid went down.

Mbah also revealed that the bulk power restoration work was carried out by a team of TCN substation, lines, and PC&M engineers who converged from various TCN regions nationwide to ensure expedited repair works and that bulk power was quickly restored to Kebbi and environs despite the magnitude of the fire incident and its impact on the substation.

According to her, the team of engineers, who also transported the required material from regional stores to Birnin Kebbi Substation, worked tirelessly around the clock to restore power through the 150MVA and 60MVA transformers that were unaffected by the fire. On September 15, 2023, power was restored to Sokoto State via the 132kV Kaduna-Zaria-Funtua-Gusau-Talatan Mafara line, and yesterday, power was restored to Birnin Kebbi town and environs.

Presently, work is ongoing to equally connect the 132kV Birnin Kebbi – Sokoto line, enabling TCN to transmit additional bulk electricity to Sokoto State and its environs.

It is with a great sense of responsibility that we once again express our deepest appreciation to the government and electricity customers in Kebbi State and environs as well as the Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company, for their understanding and patience during the period. We also thank all stakeholders for their understanding, support, and prayers throughout the very challenging period.

We remain committed to pursuing the network expansion projects and will continue to work hard to ensure the continued improvement of the nation’s transmission grid, she added.
