A person suspected of kidnapping a girl in Zaria and demanding a ransom for her release was apprehended by the girl’s mother.

The suspect, identified as Aminu Ibrahim, aged 35, was believed to have abducted a young woman named Fatima Adamu, aged 23, whom he allegedly killed and buried.

Fatima’s mother, Mallama Nana Fatima, expressed her distress about the incident while speaking at her residence but was unable to provide further details due to her grief.

According to Hajara Adamu, Fatima’s younger sister, Fatima had traveled to Kaduna with the intention of a four-day stay. However, when she did not return at the agreed time, and numerous calls to her went unanswered, suspicions arose. The family later received a call from a man who claimed to have abducted Fatima and demanded a N100,000 ransom. The family raised the amount and handed it over to the suspect at a designated location in Wusasa, Zaria.

After promising to release Fatima on the same day, the suspect failed to do so and demanded an additional N100,000 after three days. In a desperate attempt to secure Fatima’s release, the mother and sister sold a piece of land, raised the money, and went to the agreed meeting point in Wusasa. Upon recognizing the suspect as he disembarked from a motorcycle, they raised an alarm, leading to his apprehension by the public.

The suspect confessed to the crime and guided the police to his residence in Limancin Iya, Zaria, where he was suspected of burying the abducted young woman. He stated that the victim died in their custody and was buried at his residence in Limancin Iya.

ASP Mansir Hassan, the spokesman for the Kaduna State Police Command, confirmed the arrest and mentioned that the investigation was ongoing.
