- A total of 263,803 results were withheld due to malpractice and irregularities
The West African Examinations Council, WAEC will today decide on the cases of malpractice and irregularities that arose during the conduct of the 2023 West African Senior School Certificate Examinations, WASSCE.
Recall that the administration of the immediate past WAEC boss, Mr. Patrick Areghan, in August while announcing the results of WASSCE, noted that a total of 263,803 results were withheld due to malpractice and irregularities.
Part of the statement stated: “On behalf of the Registrar to Council, the Management and Staff of the West African Examinations Council, WAEC, Nigeria, I welcome you to this press briefing to announce the release of the results of the West African Senior School Certificate Examination, WASSCE, for school candidates, 2023 in Nigeria.
“Out of a total of 1,613,733 candidates that sat for the examination, the results of 262,803 candidates are being withheld due to reports of cases of examination malpractice.”
Meanwhile, in the early hours of Tuesday at the Council’s X handle, WAEC announced that a decision will be made on the withheld results.
“The 76th Meeting of the Nigeria Examinations Committee (NEC) to consider & decide on the malpractice/irregularity cases arising from the conduct of WASSCE for School Candidates, 2023 begins today.
It would be recalled that the examination body appointed Dr. Amos Josiah Dangut, as the Head of the Nigeria National Office ( HNO).
He succeeded Patrick Ehidiamen Areghan.
Born on October 2, 1967, in Mbar District of Bokkos Local Government Area, Plateau State, Dangut attended Government Secondary School, Riyom from 1981 to 1983 and Government Science School, Kuru, from 1983 to 1986, where he obtained his WASC/SC in 1986, both in Plateau State.
From there, he proceeded to the University of Agriculture, Makurdi, Benue State, where he bagged the award of Bachelor of Agriculture in Animal Production in 1991.
He bagged a Masters degree in Animal Science in April 1994 from the University of Ibadan and Doctor of Philosophy (Animal Science, 2017), from Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi and finally, Master of Education (Administration and Planning) in 2020 from the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN).
Dangut is an astute scholar with various educational publications in international and national journals. He has also presented numerous keynotes and other papers at international and national conferences/fora. He is an active member of the Science Teachers Association of Nigeria (STAN) and the Nigeria Institute of Management (NIM).
Until his appointment as the Head of the Nigeria National Office of WAEC, Dr. Dangut was the Deputy Registrar/HNO’s Office. He is married with children.
