- Abia State government petitions President Tinubu and security chiefs over allegations against Governor Alex Otti, citing potential security threats
- The government requests immediate and thorough investigations into the serious allegations and invites conference organizers for explanations
The government of Abia State has petitioned President Bola Tinubu and the security chiefs in response to two separate news conferences in which two different groups made allegations against Governor Alex Otti.
The groups claimed Otti was funding the litigation of Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi and using the banned Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, to instil fear throughout the state.
Ferdinand Ekeoma, the governor’s special adviser on media and publicity, stated this yesterday during a press conference in Umuahia, the state capital, in response to the allegations.
He went on to say that they went so far as to demand that the governorship election verdict scheduled for Friday not be delivered in the state because the government intends to intimidate the tribunal to favour Otti.
“Or, alternatively, would ensure that the judges are killed if they do not rule in favour of the governor,” the special adviser says.
He stated that the petition was necessary because the allegations were serious and had the potential to cause discontent, insecurity, and a breakdown in law and order.
He added;
We strongly and most appropriately make the following demands and submission.” He maintained that the allegations could endanger the lives and property of innocent citizens of the state.
That President Tinubu, the Chief Of Army Staff, the National Security Adviser, and the inspector general of police should kindly use their good offices to cause immediate and thorough investigation into these allegations.
Ekeoma therefore requested that the security agencies invite the conference organizers to explain their actions and sources of information so that they could get to the bottom of the problem.
