Police patrol vehicle rams into BRT bus in Lagos due to brake failure

An eyewitness confirmed that while no casualties occurred, both the police vehicle and the BRT bus sustained damage

On Wednesday afternoon, a Nigeria Police Force patrol vehicle collided with a Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) in Lagos State, attributed to brake failure at the Pleasure BRT Lane in the Oke Odo area.

An eyewitness, speaking to Sahara Reporters, confirmed that while no casualties occurred, both the police vehicle and the BRT bus sustained damage.

“Accident at Pleasure BRT Lane between Police patrol van and BRT Bus. The driver of the police van attributed the mistakes to brake failure. No casualty recorded,” the eyewitness said.

One of the major causes of accidents on Nigerian highways is brake failure.

In another news, WithinNigeria reported that One Belasa Iyange, a police officer in Benue State, has been dismissed for raping a 16-year-old girl who was in detention.

Iyange, a constable, was disengaged from the force by the police hierarchy in the State.

The rape incident happened at the Divisional Police headquarters, Tse Agbaragba, Konshisha Local Government Area of the state.

The constable was said to have taken the victim out of the female cell under the guise of trying to help her, took her into an office and had sexual intercourse with her against her consent.

The underage girl was said to have reported the case to the Divisional Police Officer. This led to the arrest of the constable and the case was brought to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Makurdi.

The constable is already facing prosecution at the Magistrate’s Court, Makurdi, capital of Benue State.

Consequently, police authorities dismissed the constable as he faced litigation.

The state Commissioner of Police, Mr Bartholomew Onyeka, confirmed Iyange dismissal on Tuesday in Makurdi.

He stated that the Force was a very disciplined organisation.
