Mr. Olusola Odumosu, the Federal Capital Territory Commandant of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), has reiterated his commitment to putting a stop to the increasing attacks and killings of innocent citizens by criminals in the nation’s capital and environs.

Odumosu, who promised to fight criminals in the FCT, spoke at the start of a three-day training exercise for the command’s arms squad unit in Abuja.

“We will not tolerate any trigger-happy personnel,” he said. We condemn any form of intimidation or harassment of members of the public.”

The FCT commandant, who has repeatedly said “enough is enough” to all forms of criminality in the territory, has promised that his administration will stop such attacks.”We will no longer tolerate one-time vandalism, robbery, intentional and unprovoked harassment, and unjustified killing of innocent Nigerians who fall victim when they search for greener pasture.” The NSCDC is committed to protecting the lives and property of all Nigerians, and this is exactly what we will demonstrate.

“From now on, any such attack or killing will be met with proportionate and lawful force because an attack on an innocent citizen is an attack on the state.”

“Enough is enough; this strong warning is made clear again so that evil-doers, criminals and agents of destruction in the FCT will know that their offences against the state, innocent persons and its people will not go unpunished henceforth,” the prime minister said.

Even as he warned the trainees to be firm when dealing with vandals and miscreants, he urged them to avoid accidental discharge.

“While being civil in your approach, duty and operations, I also encourage you to be firm on criminals because FCT is not the place for them,” he said.

According to him, 280 personnel from area commands, divisional offices, and command units were being trained on the most recent weapons handling techniques.

He stated that after their training, they would be deployed to strategic locations in the FCT, and the corps would not accept failure.

Odumosu stated that in the last two months, the corps had arrested 85 suspects caught vandalizing government properties across the FCT, while manhole theft had decreased dramatically.

Mr. John Stephen, the unit commandant, stated that the corps had devised new strategies to counter the dynamic security challenges in the FCT, and that the training exercise was one method of instilling the new strategies in the personnel on the ground.
