Kano: Governor Yusuf Hires Tinubu’s Lawyers To Retrieve ‘Mandate’ At Appeal Court

The Kano State Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal sacked Governor Yusuf last month

Chief Wole Olanipekun (SAN)

Abba Kabir Yusuf, the governor of Kano State, has hired a renowned legal luminary, Chief Wole Olanipekun (SAN), to lead his battle to reclaim his mandate at the Court of Appeal.

The Kano State Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal sacked Governor Yusuf last month and declared his challenger, Nasir Yusuf Gawuna of the All Progressives Congress (APC), the rightful winner of the State’s March 18 gubernatorial election.

Dissatisfied with the Tribunal’s decision as the court of first instance, Governor Yusuf of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) filed a 42-ground appeal before the appellate court, requesting that the higher Court set aside the Tribunal’s decision and dismiss the APC’s petition against his electoral victory as declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

According to a copy of the notice of appeal, Olanipekun, SAN, who led President Bola Tinubu’s legal team at the Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal (PEPT), is now the Kano State governor’s legal counsel.

Bode Olanipekun (SAN), Ibrahim G. Waru, and Akintola Makinde are also on the governor’s legal team, all with Wole Olanipekun & Co, the legal firm handling the appeal, while Chief E.O.B. Offiong (APC) remains the APC’s counsel.

Tribunal Upholds Alex Otti’s Victory As Abia Governor

The Abia State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal affirmed Alex Otti’s election victory.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate Okey Ahaiwe’s petitions against Otti were rejected by the court in the state capital of Umuahia.

The tribunal determined that Ahaiwe’s claim against Otti of the Labour Party (LP) lacked merit when it rendered its decision at about 1:20 p.m.

Otti’s election as governor by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has been challenged by Ahaiwe.
