- State Police Commissioner, CP. Mohammed Usaini Gume has urged all police officers in the Command to intensify their efforts in combating crime.
Eight alleged kidnappers who were terrorising Kano State and its surroundings have been detained by police, and they have also found AK-47 firearms.
This was stated in a press release that CSP. Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the Command’s spokemapn, signed.
He said that several coordinated operations between the Nigeria Police Force and the vigilante group resulted in the arrest of the culprits.
He claims that “the first operation was carried out on March 9, 2023, after police got a tip from the Getso Gwarzo LGA, Kano, village head that some group of armed individuals suspected to be kidnappers raided the area on motorcycles.
“The suspected armed men abandoned their victim, one Zaliha Idris of Yar’aduwa village, Katsina State and their operational motorcycle, Boxer, red in colour.”
He also said on the same day, one Abdullahi Idris of Baji Sumaila LGA, Kano, who was arrested for cattle rustling and culpable homicide led the tactical team of the Command to the arrest of his accomplice.
He disclosed that an AK-47 riffle with Breech No: 35535 and one magazine loaded with fourteen (14) rounds of 7.6239 life ammunition were recovered.
The statement added that on 29/09/2023, the police raided kidnappers’ hideout at Dansoshiya Forest, arrested one Kabiru Haruna and recovered one locally fabricated revolver AK-47 rifle.
He said efforts were on to arrest the fleeing suspects, adding that the arrested suspects have been taken to court.
The State Police Commissioner, CP. Mohammed Usaini Gume charged all police officers of the Command to continue to redouble their efforts in crime fighting.
He also appreciated the good people of the State for their continued prayers, supports, understanding, encouragement and cooperation in the fight against crime and criminality in the State.
