Officer Drambi Vandi, the suspended assistant superintendent of police, was found guilty of killing renowned female lawyer Bolanle Raheem, and the Lagos High Court has sentenced him to death by hanging.
On Monday, Justice Ibironke Harrison issued the ruling.
On Monday, Drambi Vandi was taken before the Lagos State High Court at the Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS) annexe for a one-count accusation of murder. Drambi Vandi had previously entered a not guilty plea to the charges.
Raheem Bolanle was allegedly shot and killed by Officer Vandi on December 25 in the Ajah neighbourhood of Lagos. The horrific incident happened as the victim was travelling home from a Christmas vacation with her family.
This Christmas Day killing drew condemnation from diverse segments of society, including the political elite.
