On Monday, the Kano State Government initiated the dispersal of 52,000 bags of rice and 52,000 bags of maize as relief to the most disadvantaged individuals across all 44 local government areas in the State.
Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, during the commencement of the distribution, cautioned the committee overseeing the process against profiting from the allocated food supplies.
He clarified that the distribution is designated for specific individuals, emphasizing that committee members, journalists, security personnel, and civil servants are ineligible to receive the palliatives.
The Governor highlighted that these relief efforts aim to ease the impact of subsidy removal and alleviate the suffering experienced by the populace.
He explained that this is the second time the items are distributed to selected vulnerable groups for 484 wards across the 44 LGAs in the State.
He said the committee, comprising community and religious leaders amongst others, was set up not only to oversee the distribution but also to ensure that the items reached the targeted groups.
“Each ward will receive 400 bags of 10 kg of rice free with 991,000 bags of maize, Tsangaya and Islamiyya schools and Tory homes, persons with special needs, junior Civil Servants, widows and orphans will benefit,” he said.
