The Niger State Police Command apprehended an individual on suspicion of pilfering two cows from Chekungi village in Bida Local Government Area.
Detailing the incident, it was mentioned that a report was filed last Monday regarding the disappearance of horses from a farm within Chekungi village.
On Sunday, October 3, 2023, approximately at 9:11 am, it was reported that two female horses were taken from a stable that housed around five horses.
According to the PPRO, “The complainant strongly suspected one Ahmed Abubakar Aliyu of Zaria, Kaduna, who was in the farm and had been visiting the farm for horse grooming and racing.”
He further disclosed that the suspect was immediately arrested from the farm and during interrogation, confessed to the crime.
Abiodun stated that the suspect moved the two horses to a nearby bush from the farm, and later hired a vehicle from the park to move the horses to Kaduna at a cost of N100,000.
“Based on the confession, the driver of the vehicle was contacted and he dropped the horses at Mararaban-Jos, Kadun, and another vehicle was arranged to convey the horses back to Bida,” the police spokesperson added.
Abiodun noted that investigation on the case is ongoing, adding that the suspect will be made to face the law.
