Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency specialist located in the Lake Chad region, claims that Operation HADARIN’s soldiers saved the students.
The rescue was successful, according to Makama, who cited a military source, because the troops responded quickly to the terrorists’ kidnapped students’ distress calls.
He said the troops immediately mobilized and formed a blocking position at a possible withdrawal route which led to a heavy gun duel with the terrorists, adding that the troops’ superiority forced the terrorists to abandon the victims and flee.
During the encounter with the terrorists around 12 a.m., two of the students were able to escape while the other two students a male and a female were safely rescued by the troops.
