- Aide to Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, Doyin Adebowale, stated that the PDP in Ondo State cannot compel the governor to appear publicly
- Adebowale clarified that Governor Akeredolu remains in control of the state and questioned the appropriateness of the PDP’s protest
In a recent statement, Doyin Adebowale, an aide to Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, clarified that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ondo State cannot compel the governor to appear publicly.
Adebowale’s comments were shared during an interview on Channels TV’s Politics Today in response to the 24-hour ultimatum given by protesters from the opposition party, demanding that Governor Akeredolu address the state’s people and return to his office within three days.
When questioned about the governor’s absence from his office recently, Adebowale emphasized that the PDP does not possess the authority to force Governor Akeredolu into making a public appearance.
“The so-called youth of the PDP believe they have the right to take to the streets and protest against the ruling APC. They want him (Akeredolu) to come out. But for what purpose? To address them at the PDP secretariat. Is this an appropriate approach?” Adebowale questioned.
He went on to clarify that Governor Akeredolu remains fully in control of the state, as witnessed by APC stakeholders during their recent visit.
Adebowale added, “My role as an aide requires physical meetings with him, not mere phone discussions. Some individuals may have honourable intentions, but this isn’t true for those with ulterior motives. This is precisely why security agencies declined to permit them to take to the streets. What would the outcome be if APC supporters were to do the same? Governor Akeredolu is effectively managing the affairs of the state and remains firmly in control.”
