- The victim had been accused of stealing a Bajaj motorcycle
On Friday, an enraged crowd in the A.A. Koto region of Akwanga, Nasarawa State, took the law into their own hands and fatally attacked an unidentified man on suspicion of motorcycle theft.
A local resident, Bawa Kyuni, verified the incident, explaining that the victim had been accused of stealing a Bajaj motorcycle. Shockingly, rather than reporting the alleged thief to the police, the furious mob resorted to violence, beating him to death.
“He was beaten until he died,” Kyuni said.
Another resident who witnessed the incident said Police operatives around the area could not stop the mob from Lynching the alleged thief.
Efforts to reach the Nasarawa State Police Command for an official reaction have not been successful.
However, sources disclosed that soldiers of the Nigerian Army were deployed to the scene of the incident to restore normalcy and oversee the evacuation of the deceased’s body.
