- UAE and METSCO Africa join forces to establish a $5 million off-grid power plant in Nigeria following President Tinubu’s visit to the UAE
- The project aims to provide sustainable and reliable power solutions, reduce generator dependence, and create employment opportunities for Nigerian youth
In a landmark partnership, a United Arab Emirates-based firm and METSCO Africa, an electrical engineering, procurement, and construction company, have officially announced their collaboration to establish a $5 million off-grid power plant in Nigeria. This significant development comes from the recent visit of Nigeria’s President, Bola Tinubu, to the UAE, where he appealed to private investors in the UAE’s power sector.
During President Tinubu’s visit to the UAE, discussions addressed various bilateral issues, including the Emirates Airline flight suspension to Nigeria, visa restrictions, and other diplomatic matters. Subsequently, both parties have agreed to invest in a state-of-the-art off-grid power plant for Nigeria.
During a press conference in Abuja, Dr. Henry Dakpokpo, the Chief Technical Director of METSCO Africa, expressed his enthusiasm for the project. He stated that the UAE company is committed to manufacturing high-capacity batteries capable of extended use with solar panels. This technology promises to provide sustainable and reliable power solutions for Nigerian households and businesses.
Accompanied by Mr. Igenegba Adolphus Bobby, the Chief Executive Officer/Founder of METSCO Africa, and Mr. Uche Cadmus, the Managing Director, Dr. Dakpokpo disclosed that the total investment for this project would amount to $5 million. He added that President Tinubu also sought to lift the flight ban during his visit, demonstrating the commitment to enhancing bilateral relations between Nigeria and the UAE.
Furthermore, Dr. Dakpokpo outlined the project’s objective, explaining that the off-grid power plant aims to provide an uninterrupted power supply to households, banks, and companies, reducing dependence on generators and the public power grid. This initiative promises to alleviate Nigeria’s electricity shortages and holds the potential to generate employment opportunities for the nation’s youth, thereby contributing to economic growth.
Dr. Dakpokpo elaborated, “The solution we are offering is to ensure that your home, business, and financial institution can operate autonomously, without the need for generators or public power sources. This project will not only create employment opportunities but will also significantly contribute to the economic development of our nation, providing a sustainable solution to our energy challenges.”
The collaboration between the UAE and METSCO Africa marks a substantial step toward enhancing Nigeria’s energy infrastructure, bringing the promise of uninterrupted power supply one step closer to reality. This initiative reflects the shared commitment of both nations to address critical energy needs and boost economic growth in the region.
