The Minister of Steel Development, Alhaji Shuaibu Audu, emphasized on Saturday that issues of ethnicity have been completely set aside in Kogi State, particularly concerning the upcoming governorship election scheduled for November 11.
The Minister made this assertion during the All Progressive Congress (APC) Zonal Campaign Rally in Anyigba, Dekina Local Government Area of the state.
Audu, also the Director-General of the Kogi APC Governorship Campaign Council, conveyed that the sole focus of the APC is the “Kogi Agenda.” He added that the party’s candidate, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, is committed to building upon and consolidating the commendable achievements of Governor Yahaya Bello.
He stated, “The only agenda for the APC is the Kogi Agenda. The Party has the interest of the entire state at heart. Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo has a vision for the development of the entire state. He will build and consolidate on the legacies of Gov. Yahaya Bello.”
Audu also highlighted the notable improvements in security, job creation, and agricultural development in Kogi under Governor Bello’s leadership, emphasizing the APC’s commitment to expanding agricultural production in Kogi East.
The Minister urged the people to support Alhaji Ododo and the APC, underlining that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is deeply invested in Kogi’s progress by developing Ajaokuta Steel.
He added, “This will provide substantial employment opportunities for the state’s youth. The President has expressed concern about the state and has urged us not to hand it over to a government that lacks vision or to an opposition government. The President is concerned about the state, and we cannot afford to yield a strategic state to the opposition.”
The Chairman of the APC in Kogi State, Alhaji Abdullahi Bello, expressed his satisfaction with the massive turnout and support shown by the people of Kogi East. He encouraged them to continue this momentum, paving the way for a resounding victory in the governorship election.
Senator Jibrin Echocho, who represents Kogi East in the National Assembly, urged those in the zone who have yet to join the APC to embrace the party, emphasizing that the strength of party structures determines elections.
Echocho stressed, “Elections are won based on party structures. The people of Kogi East voted for the APC in the general election. We cannot afford to do otherwise in the upcoming election.”
In his address to the crowd, the Deputy Governor of Kogi, Mr. Edward Onoja, urged voters to cast their ballots based on continuity, advising against being swayed by sentiments. He emphasized that elections revolve around political parties and not tribal, religious, or regional affiliations.
Governor Yahaya Bello echoed this sentiment, cautioning against ethnic politics and highlighting the unifying aspects of their governance. He emphasized that issues of ethnicity have been set aside in favor of fairness, equity, and justice.
The APC governorship candidate, Alhaji Usman Ahmed Ododo, reiterated his commitment to the progress, unity, and prosperity of Kogi State, urging the people to rally behind his aspiration. He expressed his readiness to be a servant leader with no barriers.
Ododo thanked Governor Bello for his remarkable achievements and pledged to build upon the legacies. He also thanked Tinubu for his leadership and commitment to Kogi’s growth and development.
The rally concluded with officially welcoming defectors from the PDP, SDP, and other political parties into the APC.
