The command of the Ebonyi State Police has verified the arrest of numerous prominent individuals and young people for their suspected involvement in cult conflicts within the State.
There have reportedly been some youth deaths in the state’s Nkwuagu area as a result of a recent conflict between two opposing cult organisations.
It was learned that the altercation terrified vendors and stopped operations at the Nkwuagu Market, which is situated beside the Abakaliki/Afikpo Motorway.
According to Daily Post , “Abakiliki and its environs are experiencing a silent cult war, and about four people—including a graduate—have been killed.”
“For four days now, this development has forced business owners to close at Nkwagu axis of the military cantonment, where the first and the second attacks took place.
“Again, youths in the same area and families have fled for fear of being attacked.
“Traders at the local market, just after cantonment, have equally locked their shops for fear of being attacked by the armed cultists.”
Reports have it that the development attracted a heavy deployment of security officers, especially the police and the military.
It was equally learnt that many stakeholders, including a traditional ruler, whose name is yet to be identified, were arrested at Nkwuagu area.
Speaking to newsmen in Abakaliki, the spokesperson of the Ebonyi State Police command, SP, Onome Onovwakpoyeya confirmed the cult clashes.
Onovwakpoyeya revealed that an investigation was still ongoing.
“Concerning the cult clashes, investigation is ongoing and several persons have been arrested,” she said.
