Men of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Gombe State Command, have foiled a plan by some individuals to host a same-sex wedding.
They have therefore arrested 76 suspects in connection with the development.
The state Public Relations Officer, Buhari Sa’ad, disclosed this while parading the suspects before journalists at the command’s headquarters in Gombe on behalf of the state Commandant, Mohammed Muazu.
He said out of the 76 suspects, 59 are males with 21 said to have confessed to being homosexuals, adding that 17 females were also arrested at the scene.
He said, “They were arrested at Duwa Plaza along Bauchi-Gombe Expressway while holding a homosexual birthday and they had plans to hold a same-sex wedding before our men raided the scene.
“Fifty-nine males were arrested, 21 wilfully confessed to being homosexuals and 17 females present at the scene were also picked.
“They will be charged to court to answer for their crime which is on social vice; a crime in Gombe State.”
In another story, the Police during the week confirmed the gruesome murder of a Gombe State College of Education student, Yosi Yusuf by unidentified assailants in the early hours of Sunday.
Yosi Yusuf, who hails from Bagange town in Billiri LGA of the state, was pursuing a Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE) before his death.
He was in his third year, and resided in Zazzagawa quarters as an off-campus student.
The Gombe State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Mahid Muazu Abubakar, confirmed the incident.
He assured the public that investigations are already underway, stating that the perpetrators will be brought to justice.
The body of the deceased has been deposited at the mortuary, waiting for the outcome of the police investigations.
