- Charles Kurobo, a Senior Special Assistant to Governor Douye Diri, has defected from the PDP to the APC due to economic challenges and hunger
- Kurobo expressed concern about the suffering experienced under the current administration in Bayelsa and pledged support to the APC candidate
Mr. Charles Kurobo, a Senior Special Assistant to Governor Douye Diri on Special Duties and Chairman of the Niger Delta Ex-agitators’ Leadership Forum, First Phase, Bayelsa State chapter, has made a significant move by leaving the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to join the All Progressives Congress (APC). His decision to switch political allegiance is primarily driven by the specter of hunger that looms large in his life.
Kurobo, who previously held a key position within Governor Diri’s administration, expressed his reasons for the dramatic defection. He lamented that hunger had become an ever-present concern, prompting him to return to the APC fold.
In his candid statement, Kurobo revealed that he felt compelled to come forward and speak the truth. He mentioned that his family and those dependent on him had lost faith in his ability to fulfill his responsibilities. The prevailing economic conditions made it increasingly challenging for him to support them despite his role in Governor Diri’s government.
He said, “As a Senior Special Assistant to the governor on special duties, my role is expected to positively impact the lives of those around me, particularly my immediate family. Regrettably, even recharging my phone for effective communication became a daunting task, saved only by the timely assistance of fellow stakeholders from the Niger Delta region.”
Kurobo expressed deep concern about the level of hunger and suffering experienced under the administration of His Excellency, Senator Douye Diri. He questioned the administration’s ability to garner support, given the hardships faced by Bayelsans. He urged the Bayelsa people to reflect on their direction and whether it aligned with their pride and aspirations.
“We have never been a myopic set of people and should not be seen as such,” Kurobo emphasized, indicating a collective desire for a brighter future for Bayelsa.
In closing, he pledged his support to the APC candidate, Timipre Sylva, before the November 11 election. This significant defection underscores the shifting political landscape in Bayelsa State and sets the stage for a closely watched contest in the upcoming election.
