The Federal Government, through the Federation’s Head of Civil Service, Dr. Folasade Yemi-Esan, has announced that as of Friday, October 27, 2023, unverified civil servants will be removed from the federal payroll. This action is the result of a two-week Integrated Personnel and Payroll Information System (IPPIS) verification process that will conclude on Friday, with the aim of eliminating ghost workers from the government payroll.
In a statement issued by Dr. Yemi-Esan on Wednesday, it was acknowledged that the verification process had faced initial challenges, including impatience and disorderliness among some officers. However, these issues have been addressed, and the ongoing two-week exercise is proceeding well.
The statement outlined the government’s commitment to finalizing the verification of records for all civil servants. Any officer whose records cannot be verified will be delisted from the government’s payroll.
Dr. Yemi-Esan emphasized that the Office of the Head of Civil Service had carried out extensive sensitization and publicity efforts and would not tolerate any excuses from defaulters. The second phase of the physical verification exercise began in 2018 and involved deploying staff to states across the nation, allowing officers to complete the verification in their respective states and avoid traveling to Abuja.
The statement also mentioned that some officers had been given an opportunity to update their records on the portal from October 3 to October 13, 2023, before the forthcoming action against defaulters. This initiative is part of the government’s ongoing efforts to ensure that the payroll is free from irregularities and ghost workers.
