In order to discuss peace, the governor of Rivers State, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, met with the elders of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, behind closed doors.
The State House of Assembly’s burning of its sacred chambers following a move by certain lawmakers to impeach the state’s governor is not unrelated to the meeting.
Elder Ferdinand Alabaraba, the PDP Elders Forum Leader, Chief Sergeant Awuse, the Chairman of the Rivers State Council of Traditional Rulers, Senior Advocate of Nigeria OCJ Okocha, and Bro Felix Obuah, the PDP/Fubara campaign director for the 2023 election are among those present at the meeting.
The meeting was held at the residence of the governor in Government House, Port Harcourt.
Although, the purpose of the meeting was not disclosed, but a source said the elders were in Government House to intervene in the ensuing crisis in the state.
The source, who did not want his name mentioned, said the elders had pleaded with Fubara to shelve further action while the team consulted all parties involved to bring in peace.
