FIFA bans Rubiales for 3 years for forced kiss on Spain player

...has 10 days to appeal the football ruling body's decision

Former President of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) Luis Rubiales has been suspended from all football related activities until 2026.

He was suspended following his ungentlemanly conduct at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.

After Spain overcame England to win this year’s edition of the Women’s World Cup, Rubiales kissed Spain forward Jenni Hermoso without her consent.

The scandal sent shockwaves across the football community.

Rubiales initially laughed off the incident, claiming Hermoso consented to the gesture.

Hermoso on her part denied it was with her consent after the uproar.

Rubiales later apologised and attributed the protests to false feminism and he refused to step down from his role

However, FIFA suspended him temporarily many weeks later after pressure from several quarters

According to footballespana.net, FIFA has now finally suspended him for a period of three years and he has 10 days to appeal the football ruling body’s decision.

He could face even up to five more years of suspension depending on the verdict and the ruling of the court.

Rubiales was formerly a professional footballer. He played as a defender for Mallorca B, Lleida, Xerez, Levante and Alicante amongst others.

Between 2010 and 2017 he was the President of the Association of Spanish footballers. He became President of the RFEF in the year 2018.
