- Kogi youth group appeals to President Tinubu for a credible gubernatorial election, emphasizing freedom, fairness, and credibility
- They request impartial election observers and enhanced security measures to safeguard the democratic process and protect voters’ rights
A group of young people from Kogi State has made an appeal to President Bola Tinubu and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to guarantee a credible gubernatorial election in the state. They specifically asked the President to use his influence to ensure that the election is conducted in a manner that upholds the principles of freedom, fairness, and credibility.
The Kogi Associated Youth Network (KAYN) conveyed their concerns in an open letter to President Tinubu through their Coordinator, Victor Idajili. In their letter, they urged the President to request that security agencies and the electoral umpire conduct the election in a manner that safeguards the integrity of the process and ensures that their votes are not compromised.
The youth group also called on President Tinubu to appoint impartial election observers to oversee the entire electoral process in Kogi State. These observers, they suggested, should be individuals of high integrity from both national and international organizations to provide an independent assessment of the electoral proceedings.
The letter stressed the importance of a democratic process that accurately represents the will and aspirations of the youth in Kogi, who are integral stakeholders in the state’s progress and development. They appealed to President Tinubu to use his authority and influence to protect the voices and votes of the people, ensuring a peaceful election in the state.
The letter further requested that adequate security measures be put in place to protect the lives of citizens during the election period, emphasizing the importance of violence-free voting centers, free from intimidation and coercion, in upholding democratic values.
