- He explained that the strike is over the failure of the state government to implement financial autonomy for its legislative arm
On Monday, the Kano State Chapter of the Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria took part in a nationwide strike declared by the union’s national body, resulting in the closure of the State House of Assembly.
The chairman of the state PASAN chapter, Bashir Yahaya, confirmed this development when addressing the press.
“Yes, we have joined the strike as directed by the national president of our association.
“The strike followed the expiration of an ultimatum the union gave to the government to implement financial autonomy for the legislature,” he said.
He explained that the strike is over the failure of the state government to implement financial autonomy for its legislative arm.
“The union was patient for two years after President Muhammadu Buhari signed the Financial Autonomy Act, but state governors have failed to implement it,” he explained.
He said the association would continue the strike until their demands were met.
Yahaya maintained that the state Assembly would remain closed until there is a counter directive from the national body.
