BREAKING: Appeal Court Gives Verdict On Sylva’s Qualification Status As APC Guber Candidate In Bayelsa

The Abuja Court of Appeal has upheld the decision disqualifying Timipre Sylva as the APC candidate.

The disqualification of Timipre Sylva, the former minister of petroleum, as the All Progressives Congress’ (APC) candidate for governor of Bayelsa state, has been overturned by the Abuja court of appeal.

On October 9, the Federal High Court in Abuja ruled that Sylva was not eligible to run in the Bayelsa state election scheduled for November 11.

The ruling judge, Donatus Okorowo, rendered a decision stating that Sylva would violate the 1999 constitution if permitted to run for office again after serving as the state’s governor for five years and being sworn in twice.

The judge held that Sylva was not qualified to run in the forthcoming poll because if he wins and is sworn in, he would spend more than eight years in office as governor of the state.
