- Governor Fubara and former Governor Wike have been in the news due to a reported move to impeach Fubara
Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State has announced that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has intervened to ease the current political tension in Rivers State. He made this announcement during a briefing with State House reporters after a National Police Council meeting presided over by the president at the Council Chambers of the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
Governor Mohammed stated that President Tinubu is in discussions with the parties involved in the ongoing political dispute, and it appears that his intervention will bring about peace. He emphasized that President Tinubu is a leader for both the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC), and that they are willing to work with him.
Earlier reports indicated that Governor Simi Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, who is currently the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), met at the Presidential Villa in Abuja. The two politicians, who had a falling out less than six months after the handover, have been in the news due to the reported move by the Rivers House of Assembly to impeach Governor Fubara.
Governor Fubara had confronted the assembly while some lawmakers loyal to Wike were reportedly planning his removal. Addressing youths who gathered at the Government House in Port Harcourt to protest the situation, Fubara vowed to resist any impeachment attempt and challenged his political opponents to specify his alleged offenses that would warrant his removal from office.
