- The chairman said the committee would work with states, Ministries, Departments and Agencies to curb urban disasters across the country
The Committee on Urban and Rural Development says it is committed to making sure that Nigerian cities abide with all master plans.
The Chairman of the Committee, Urban and Rural Development, Awaji-Inombek Abiante made the commitment during the inaugural meeting of the committee, in Abuja.
He said the committee would work with states, Ministries, Departments and Agencies to curb urban disasters across the country.
“It is our intention to liaise and perform our oversight duties as required and backed by the law and all relevant instruments. A work plan is being prepared by the secretariat and hopefully will be considered in our next sitting. We also have gotten a referral which we shall commence working on immediately. We need to also work as a team,” Abiante said.
He urged members of the committee to bring their individual expertise and wealth of experience to help steer the committee in the right direction.
“All hands should come on deck as we are all working towards the same goal, hence, all contributions made will be welcomed,” Abiante said.
He noted that the Committee on Urban Development and Regional Planning has areas of its jurisdiction as enshrined in our Standing Order.
Members of the committee pledged to work with the chairman to make the committee succeed.
