In a resolute stance against oil theft and maritime crimes in Nigeria, Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS), Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla, has unveiled a visionary plan. The goal is crystal clear – safeguard the nation’s maritime borders from the clutches of crude oil thieves and other malefactors.

Vice Admiral Ogalla shared this unwavering commitment during a recent visit by members of the Enugu Journalists Forum (EJF) to his office in Abuja, where he made his intentions unequivocal.

Emphasizing his dedication, Vice Admiral Ogalla assured all concerned that the proposed Naval Base in Ogurugu, located in the Uzo-Uwani local government area of Enugu State, is not just a dream but a pledge he is determined to fulfil during his tenure. He remains resolute in achieving the Nigerian Navy’s mandate.

Representing Vice Admiral Ogalla during the visit was Rear Admiral Akinola Olodude, the director of plans at the Nigerian Navy Headquarters in Abuja. Olodude disclosed that the Nigerian Navy is collaborating with the Nigerian Army, Nigerian Air Force, and other pertinent maritime security agencies to shield the nation’s territorial waters effectively.

According to Olodude, “The CNS wasted no time after taking office, embarking on a tour of the South East states. He engaged with South East governors, discussing security concerns in the region. Even during the South East Security Summit, despite being on a national assignment, he ensured representation. The realization of a Naval Base in the South East is close to his heart and will undoubtedly materialize.”

Olodude praised Ogalla as a consummate professional and an inclusive Nigerian leader who transcends religious, tribal, and cultural divides. Regardless of one’s background, Ogalla’s commitment to fairness and inclusivity is unwavering.

Admiral Olodude urged journalists to uphold objectivity in their reporting, emphasizing the importance of avoiding misrepresenting facts. He recognized the vital role journalists play in national development, underscoring the need for accurate and balanced reporting.
