- PDP supporters in Plateau State protested the election judgment that favored the APC and led to the removal of PDP legislators
- The protest briefly disrupted road traffic and nearly turned violent, targeting the Court of Appeal building
PDP supporters in Plateau State staged a protest in Jos, the state capital, following the recent election judgment from the Court of Appeal in Abuja. The judgment favoured the All Progressives Congress (APC) and removed most of Plateau State’s Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) state and federal legislators.
The protesters, numbering in the hundreds, blocked the road around the Old Airport roundabout in Jos, carrying placards with various inscriptions. They disrupted the road for about an hour before dispersing to continue their protest.
Security agencies, including the police and military, arrived after most protesters had dispersed.
The protest almost turned violent as the demonstrators also targeted the Court of Appeal along Yakubu Gowon Way, pelting the building and hitting the gate.
Similar protests were reported in Maraban Jema’a along the Jos-Abuja highway, which nearly escalated into violence.
The PDP’s publicity secretary, John Akans, did not respond to calls for comment on the matter.
In response to the protests, the North Central APC Forum cautioned the PDP in Plateau State against organizing such demonstrations. The forum emphasized the need to carefully handle sensitive political issues or protests in Jos and Plateau State, which have been plagued by crises over the years.
