In Delta State, a mother of nine allegedly took her own life by hanging herself with her wrapper in a public toilet, sparking confusion within the community.

The distressing act occurred on Enamejewa Street, off Warri/Sapele road, Warri, in the Warri South local government area.

The deceased, a woman over 70 years old from Olomu Kingdom in Ughelli South local government area, had reportedly made a prior threat to end her life by consuming a poisonous substance.

Despite being a devoted Roman Catholic, she proceeded to carry out her threat, ending her life by hanging herself in the compound’s public toilet on Monday.

It was gathered that it was one of her granddaughters who sensed that something was amiss when she observed that her grandmother had over stayed in the toilet.

The little girl was said to have raised an alarm that attracted the co-tenants and neighbours when she saw the ugly sight of her grandmother hanging to death.

It was also gathered that the remains of the mother of nine has been deposited in the mortuary of Central Hospital, Warri.

The cause of the suicide was not known at the time of filing this report as there was no written note from the woman.

The police public relations officer of Delta State command, DSP Bright Edafe, said he had not been properly briefed.
