Five die in Ijebu-Ode-Ore expressway crash

Early Sunday morning, a tragic crash at the Ososa junction along the Ijebu-ode-Ore expressway resulted in the loss of five lives, leaving one person injured while two others escaped unharmed.

The collision involved an unmarked Mack truck and a Honda Accord without a registration number.

As stated by Florence Okpe, the Spokesperson of the Ogun State Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps, preliminary investigations suggest that the accident occurred due to the Honda Accord’s wrongful overtaking, leading to a collision with the truck.

The injured individuals were rushed to the General Hospital, Ijebu-Ode, while the deceased were taken to the hospital’s morgue for further procedures.

The statement partly reads “The fatal crash occurred in the early hours this morning at about 0609 hrs involving 02 vehicles, a Mack truck and a Honda Accord car with no registration number on it.

“A total of 08 persons were involved 07 male adults and 01 female adult. 01 person was injured and 05 persons were recorded death 04 male adults and 01 female adult while 02 persons were unhurt.

“The suspected causes of the crash were speed and wrongful overtaking on the part of the Honda car and had a side collision with the truck.

“The injured victim was taken to General Hospital, Ijebu-ode, and the dead bodies were deposited at the same hospital morgue”.

Ogun FRSC Sector Commander, Anthony Uga has however described the crash as very avoidable if caution was put in place.

Uga while reacting to the accident advised motorists to stop making quick turns on the expressway and rather use the intersection or the proper turning point.

He sympathized with the families of the victims and advised them to contact FRSC Ijebu-Ode Command for more information about the crash.
