Concerned Edo South Leaders (CESL), a group consisting of influential figures including former governors Chief John Odigie-Oyegun and Chief Lucky Igbinedion, has called on the Edo South Senatorial district to leverage its demographic strength in the lead-up to the 2024 governorship election in Edo State. The group aims to strategically position the district to address critical challenges and enhance its influence at the state and national levels.
The leaders, including Governor Godwin Obaseki, convened a meeting in Benin where they emphasized the need for a broad-based consensus to capitalize on the competitive advantage of the district’s demographic strength and the unique creative and productive potentials of its people. The group’s objectives extend beyond political affiliations, focusing on the collective interests of the people of Edo South.
Chief John Odigie-Oyegun highlighted that the group’s concerns include the effective repositioning of Edo South for future challenges and the promotion of its interests. The leaders expressed their intention to engage and cooperate with similar groups within and outside Edo State, fostering collaboration to achieve their stated objectives.
The group plans to hold regular meetings as a platform for aggregating the interests of Edo South, aiming to achieve strategic positioning and relevance in various spheres at both national and sub-national levels. Other leaders present at the meeting included former Health Minister Dr. Osagie Ehanire, DIG Parry Osayande (Rtd), Prof. Dennis Agbonlahor, and various prominent figures from the region.
INEC Orders Fresh Election In Nine Wards Of Kogi LGA
In the Ogori/Magongo Local Government Area of Kogi State, there will be new polls held in 59 polling units, according to an announcement made by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Sunday.
The commission states that a new election will take place on Saturday, November 18, 2023.
This was disclosed by Mohammed Haruna, the INEC National Commissioner, in a statement on Sunday night.
The electoral authority reported that it had received information from Kogi on the suspension of elections in some state sites where result sheets had been finished prior to the start of voting.
