The Oba of Benin, Oba Ewuare II, has urged the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Dr. Olayemi Cardoso, to combat corruption within the nation’s apex bank. The monarch expressed concern about reports of funds being illegally taken from the CBN during the previous leadership, emphasizing the need for a robust fight against corruption.
During a courtesy visit by the Benin Branch Controller of CBN, Mr. Michael Mgbeze, and the management team to the palace, Oba Ewuare II urged the new CBN governor to implement monetary policies that would be beneficial to the economy and the Nigerian people. He highlighted the challenges faced by the CBN, particularly financial crises during general elections.
The monarch prayed for stability in the apex bank’s monetary policies and called for reforms in the banking sector. In response, the Benin Controller acknowledged the challenges faced by the CBN and assured that Governor Cardoso and the management team were working on efficient policies to address issues such as high inflation, high unemployment, and exchange rates. He mentioned ongoing efforts to realign monetary and fiscal policies for the betterment of the banking sector.
Minister to Youths: Serve Nigeria First Before Demanding From It
Dr. Iziaq Kunle Salako, the Minister of State for Environment and Ecological Management, has advised Nigerian youths to serve the country diligently and passionately before making demands from it. Speaking at the 2023 Ayetoro-Yewa Day in his hometown of Ayetoro, Yewa North Local Government Area of Ogun State, Salako emphasized the importance of service to the nation.
Salako, who was honoured at the event as the first minister from the Yewa region since 1999, highlighted the reciprocal relationship between service and reward. He likened the commitment to serving the country to a farmer tilling the land before expecting a harvest, stating that if one serves the land, the land will, in turn, serve them.
The minister urged Nigerian youths to believe in serving their land first, emphasizing service to Nigeria, Ogun State, Ogun West, and their local communities. He encouraged them to shun actions that undermine the unity and peace of the country.
