  • Adejumo Ismail, the Lagos chapter’s NLC Public Relations Officer (PRO) disclosed on Tuesday night that the NUT has pledged to follow the order.
  • According to him, “The teachers have joined — NUT and ASUU too have joined. All the unions in the tertiary institutions have joined in solidarity.”

Following an order from the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) leadership asking workers to go on strike, public schools in Lagos shut down operations on Wednesday.

Students from various public primary and secondary schools were seen walking home on the roads and streets.

The gate to a public secondary school in Lagos’ Mushin district was left wide open as kids exited the campus, while several teachers were spotted gathering under a tree, discussing discussions.

Reluctant to be identified, a teacher informed The Nation that they followed the guidance from the NLC-affiliated Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT).

Speaking with The Nation on Tuesday night, NLC Public Relations Officer (PRO) for the Lagos chapter Adejumo Ismail mentioned that the NUT has pledged to follow the instruction.

He said: “The teachers have joined — NUT and ASUU too have joined. All the unions in the tertiary institutions have joined in solidarity.”
