- Akpabio advises students to be visionary leaders by abstaining from alcohol and smoking, citing their adverse effects on health
Senate President Godswill Akpabio revealed that he has never consumed alcohol or smoked cigarettes in his life, citing their adverse effects on the human body. Speaking at the grand finale of the National Quiz Competition organized by the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies, Akpabio shared this insight while addressing secondary school students.
Commending the schools that reached the competition finals, Akpabio encouraged the students to avoid vices that could hinder their dreams and aspirations. Specifically, he urged them to abstain from alcohol consumption and smoking, emphasizing the potential harm to their health.
“You should strive to become visionary leaders in the future by abstaining from things that would truncate your dreams and goals,” Akpabio advised. Reflecting on his own choices, he stated, “In my case, I have never smoked cigarettes or taken alcohol before. This is because, growing up, I listened to parental guidance.”
Akpabio recounted childhood observations of individuals affected by alcohol, emphasizing the impact on their behavior. He stressed the importance of being honest, God-fearing youths for the betterment of Nigeria.
APC Labels PDP a Threat to Democracy, Citing Unfounded Attacks on Judiciary
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has asserted that the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), once a formidable opposition, has deviated from its purpose and now hinders partisan democracy.
This response comes in the wake of allegations made by PDP’s acting national chairman, Umar Damagum, who claimed that the APC was scheming to utilize compromised election petition courts to overturn PDP victories.
In a statement issued by APC’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, the party criticized the PDP for launching attacks to undermine democratic institutions, particularly the judiciary, accusing it of attempting to coerce the judiciary into compliance with its electoral agenda.
The statement expressed concern over the PDP’s hallucinations about a one-party state, attributing it to the party’s unrealized plan to rule Nigeria for 60 years. APC accused the PDP of attempting to tarnish its image with its own intolerant and anti-democratic tactics.
