- NSCDC emphasizes the unit’s focus on safeguarding individuals at risk due to their status, providing comprehensive training for effectiveness
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has inaugurated a specialized unit – the VIP Protection Unit. The inaugural batch of 501 personnel, trained for these new responsibilities, marked their passing out in a ceremony held at the Corps headquarters in Abuja on Friday.
Addressing the Passing Out Parade, Ahmed Audi, the Commandant General of the Corps, highlighted that safeguarding VIPs has always been within the NSCDC’s mandate. Represented by Austine Obiekwe, the ACG in charge of Agro Rangers, Audi emphasized that this unit would focus on protecting individuals exposed to threats due to their status.
Audi urged the personnel to act as exemplary ambassadors of the Corps in their assignments, cautioning that any misconduct reflecting negatively on the Corps would be met with appropriate consequences.
David Abi, the ACG overseeing training and manpower development, provided insights into the training program. The week-long training for unit members, drawn from arms squad units across the country, covered special proficiency in bodyguarding and VIP protection.
Abi detailed that the training encompassed various aspects, including “VIP escorts, duties, psychological behaviors, the effect of emotion on temper, attitude, and the relationship between principal and personnel, among others.” He expressed confidence that this comprehensive training would elevate the officers’ effectiveness in their duties beyond previous expectations.
The establishment of the VIP Protection Unit underscores the NSCDC’s commitment to enhancing security measures and aligning with evolving challenges.
