The factional Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Edison Ehie, reportedly had his home invaded on Sunday night by armed men who appeared to be police officials and maybe political thugs.
A strong advocate for Governor Siminalayi Fubara, Ehie had declared himself Speaker in the midst of the current impasse in the state assembly.
It was around eleven o’clock when the tragedy happened.
There is yet no confirmation of any casualties or property damage, thus details of the incident are still unknown.
Sources claim that Ehie’s security team was able to effectively foil the alleged assassination attempt.
This incident comes on the heels of a retreat undertaken by 27 lawmakers, led by House Speaker Martin Amaewhule, in Abuja. Amaewhule has said the retreat is a capacity-building exercise.
